I recently came across this six part PBS series from 2017 that completely refutes the myths many believe about world history and especially that of Africa.

A lot of people who post on political threads here should watch it. I can't recommend it enough to history buffs, either.

      Haven't seen that one.

The one they did about Easter Rising was great though. PBS really makes great documentaries.

If that PBS series claims that there was a great civilization in addition to the Egyptian civilization, it presents myths of its own.

The Nubians were directly south of Egypt. They learned civilization from the Egyptians. They had a system of writing that has not been ciphered yet. Further south were and are the Ethiopians. They learned civilization from the Nubians and the Arabs across from the Red Sea. Neither of these civilizations created anything of international importance.

The Bantu practiced agriculture and made tools and weapons out of iron. They built towns out of brick and stone. They never developed indigenous systems of writing and mathematics, like the Egyptians did.

Notice how you steered right away from the civilizations I mentioned because we both know they were not dependant on Egypt. Mali was the international trade center of it's day. Hasn't been matched to this day by any other civilization. You can play smart racist with your dumbass friends because they are too stupid to know any better but don't think you can push that bullshit on people that actually have more than 2 brain cells to rub together.

Great to see the racists are out in full force.

Learning about iron smelters in central Africa, the interconnectedness of the various parts of the continent, and the great civilizations in Africa far south of where the false history pushed by Europeans claimed civilization actually spread to was quite interesting.

Most completely misinformed people of course think civilization started with Egypt but it started far south of that and then spread north and west. It was also quite interesting to learn that Europeans were aware of and respected these great civilizations their descendents would later claim never existed before colonization and that it was Saharan mercenaries who created the African Muslim empire that invaded and took over Spain as well as the fundamentalist Islamic movement that swept over that part of Africa and then recaptured Spain for the Islamic empire after a Christian leader had won back parts of it in battle.

It really is a worthwhile, fascinating documentary series.

Civilization can be defined as a city based society, where the government has an effective monopoly on the legitimate use of violence. Civilizations began independently in various parts of the earth, and spread from there. As these civilizations learned of each other they learned from each other. They also fought wars.

The first civilization was the Sumerian civilization. This existed in the Tigris - Euphrates River Valley. The next civilization was the Egyptian civilization. This existed in the Nile River Delta. Both of these were Caucasian. Paintings the ancient Egyptians made of themselves and DNA from their mummies clearly demonstrate that they were more similar genetically to the people living on the other side of the Sinai Peninsula than to the Negroes who lived further south along the Nile.

The advantage of civilization over a tribal society is that civilizations had full time armies that could be in the field all year around. . Barbarians had to take time out to grow crops and tend to farm animals. In addition, civilizations usually had better weapons technology. The disadvantage civilizations had against barbarians is that civilizations selected genetically against physical aggression. Nevertheless, over a period of several thousands of years, civilization spread at the expense of barbarism.

On rare occasions Negroes adopted something equivalent to civilization from the Egyptians, the Arabs, and finally from the Europeans. They never developed indigenous civilizations the way American Indians did in parts of what is now Latin America.

God you are a fucking idiot, civilization has zero to do with cities, it is about people grouping together and adhering by a social structure that promotes the society, trade, and basic life. Mesopotamia is long held to be believed to be the first "civilization" and is located in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, and Turkey, not Egypt. If not for your refusal to ever accept that anyone with dark skin can do anything under the sun except be your whipping boy your total attributes to this world would be absolutely zero outside of your constantly proving to the world how fucking stupid a person can be, and all this time I thought tRump had that one locked up, but even he has done some smart things.

For the consummate idiot that loves to claim he is all knowing and just made the claim that "The Nubians were directly south of Egypt." I have but this to say, you are a fucking idiot that needs to learn more about the world outside of that little bubble that you live in, Nubia encompassed huge swaths of Egypt The Upper Cataract to be exact, east to the Red Sea, and down to Khartoumin what is now the Sudan, and west to the Lybian desert. The northern part of Nubia was known as Kush, the southern part as Wawat. Let me put that in a way you can understand, Nubia stretched from Aswan in the north to Khartoum in the south. Does that need to be made easier for your peas brain to understand?

Okay well both of you are wrong.

Nubia wasn't a part of Egypt, and it only included Egypt when the Nubians invaded and conquered Egypt. Egypt had done the same to them years before.

The Nubians didn't learn civilization from anyone. They and the Egyptians were fierce rivals who eventually went to war multiple times.

And no African empire was anything other than black. The only time African society was anything other than black was when the Arab Muslim invaders conquered and converted north, east, and west Africa.

The later civilization defined as 'Kushite' probably evolved from this earlier culture but was heavily influenced by the Egyptians.

While the history of the overall country is quite ancient, the Kingdom of Kush flourished between c. 1069 BCE and 350 CE.

    Ancient Egypt

For almost 30 centuries—from its unification around 3100 B.C. to its conquest by Alexander the Great in 332 B.C.—ancient Egypt was the preeminent civilization in the Mediterranean world...

Around 3400 B.C., two separate kingdoms were established near the Fertile Crescent, an area home to some of the world’s oldest civilizations: the Red Land to the north, based in the Nile River Delta and extending along the Nile perhaps to Atfih; and the White Land in the south, stretching from Atfih to Gebel es-Silsila. A southern king, Scorpion, made the first attempts to conquer the northern kingdom around 3200 B.C. A century later, King Menes would subdue the north and unify the country, becoming the first king of the first dynasty...

In the eighth century B.C., Nubian pharaohs beginning with Shabako, ruler of the Nubian kingdom of Kush, established their own dynasty–the 25th–at Thebes. Under Kushite rule, Egypt clashed with the growing Assyrian empire. In 671 B.C., the Assyrian ruler Esarhaddon drove the Kushite king Taharka out of Memphis and destroyed the city.

    @Sanity_is_Relative,

I do not see what you are so upset about. The Kushite civilization, which I have called "Nubian" was formed much later than the Egyptian civilization, and was much less significant.

Dippie Nubia existed long before 332 BC, try a few thousand years prior.

Civilizations learn from each other, even when they are hostile. I doubt the Nubians had much to teach the Egyptians, however.

    That's why you're clearly misinformed.

They were two completely different empires with completely different sources of revenue. The Kushites dominated the most lucrative trade there was at the time.

The Egyptians had no choice but to trade with them.

Civilizations have always learned from each other. The alphabet may have been invented by an Egyptian scribe, but it did not become popular in ancient Egypt because the ancient Egyptians already had their system of hieroglyphics. Writing systems developed independently in various parts of the world. The alphabet seems to have been invented once, and spread, because it was easier to learn and more versatile than the other systems.

Knowledge of the alphabet reached Phoenicia, which we now refer to as "Lebanon." The Israelites modified the Phoenician alphabet to fit the requirements of Hebrew. The ancient Greeks did the same to fit the requirements of Greek. The Romans and the Slavs seem to have learned their alphabet from the Greeks.

What we refer to as "Arabic Numbers" were actually invented by a mathematician in India. The Arabs learned it from India. The Europeans learned it from the Arabs. The modern rules for arithmetic were developed in Europe. The Arabs invented algebra. The Greeks had earlier developed geometry, leaning several principles from the Babylonians.

René Descartes combined geometry and algebra, and introduced analytic geometry in 1637.

When the Jesuits began to proselytize in China the Chinese emperor told his scholars to learn about them. They told him that the Jesuits had a system of mathematics superior to the indigenous system of China. The emperor decided that the Jesuits could teach Christianity if they taught mathematics.

The history of metallurgy reveals a similar diffusion. The use of copper does not begin until urban civilizations. The Sumerian and Egyptian civilizations discovered that by combining copper with tin, an alloy could be made that was stronger than copper or tin. Much later, in the Americas, the Incas made the same discovery, although the Aztecs never did.

The use of iron began with the Hittites about 1400 BC. The Hittites lived in what is now Turkey. From there the use of iron diffused to the Near East and to Europe. The Bantu were using iron by the first century BC. At one time it was believed that the Bantu developed the use of iron independently. Now more evidence indicates that the Bantu learned from the Nubians, who learned from the Egyptians.

When the Bantu began to make weapons out of iron they had a significant advantage over surrounding tribes who still made weapons out of stone. This led to the Bantu expansion throughout sub Saharan Africa. Nevertheless, the Bantu never developed a system of writing, until they learned writing from the Arabs and later the Europeans. Therefore the Bantu expansion can only be traced archaeologically, and linguistically. I am sure it can be traced by DNA also, but I have never read about this.

You do not prove that by asserting it.

I wrote that from knowledge I carry with me from abundant reading prior to, during, and after my university education in order to demonstrate my mastery of facts.:p

If you read somewhere that civilization begins with the Negro race, you read what is not true. If Negroes were the first civilized race they would behave better in civilized countries.
