Basic Fixes
- Check if Facebook is down – Sometimes, Facebook experiences outages or technical issues that can stop you from logging in. Visit DownDetector to check any service outage reports. If so, wait for Facebook to fix it.
- Clear browser cache and cookies – Cached data and cookies can sometimes interfere with the login process. Try cleaning it up and see if you can log in now.
- Switch browsers – Maybe the browser is the reason that you cannot log in to your Facebook account. To test, simply try a different browser or use incognito mode.
- Disable browser extensions – If switching browsers works or you don’t want to switch browsers, killing extensions for some time may help. This will help you avoid any conflict that an extension might be causing.
Fix 1. Try Resetting Your Password
If you can’t log in to Facebook and can access your email ID and phone number registered with Facebook, resetting the password might do the trick. Thankfully, it’s a straightforward process, just click Forgotten password from the login page and follow the onscreen instructions.

Fix 2. If You’re Having Trouble Logging in Through a Phone Number
If you’re trying to log in using a phone number and it’s not working, Facebook suggests to double-check your country code and phone number.
Since Facebook auto-detects the location and pre-fills the country code, it might be wrong, especially, if you’re traveling or using a VPN.
Fix 3. Recover Facebook Account
The next action to regain access to your Facebook account is to recover it. The platform offers a page dedicated to recovering the Facebook account. Click the link and follow the on-screen instructions.
However, there’s a catch; you must use a computer (browser) or mobile phone previously used to sign in to Facebook during the recovery process. Plus, you’ll be asked to enter key details such as email, mobile number, security questions’ answers, etc., to verify your identity.

Fix 4. Check if Your Account Has Been Disabled or Banned
If you still cannot log in to your Facebook account, your account may have been disabled or banned. However, in both scenarios, you should have ideally received an email from Facebook informing you of the same.
Check your inbox for any emails from Facebook. The good news is that you can appeal a review if you believe your account was disabled wrongly. Use your mail ID registered with Facebook to send a mail to disabled@fb.com or appeals@fb.com.
Fix 5. Is Your Account Hacked
If you suspect that your Facebook account has been hacked, you should take immediate action to secure it. Report to Facebook of your suspicion. Facebook will secure your account and give back control to you, but only after you can prove ownership.
That will involve sharing license or other ID details, verifying your email and mobile number, and answering security questions.

FAQs Regarding Log-In Issues on Facebook
The prompt usually pops up when you’re using a different device (mobile or browser) from your usual one. It’s a precautionary measure by Facebook to keep your account safe. You can make the changes after using the new device for a while.
Facebook has a dedicated page to help you recover your account (mentioned in Fix 3). However, if that doesn’t work for you, visit their help center page for more assistance.
