Not bad as is. Next time try not peeling the carrots. Just wash and remove any dirt. There's a lot of flavor you're peeling away there. Instead of brown sugar try using a generous squeeze of your favorite honey, a teaspoon of finely grated ginger and enough melted butter to pull it at together. Salt and pepper to taste and enjoy. It's good!
You had me drooling right up to where I saw 'margarine' in your recipe. Anyone that would use this in their ingredients is immediately suspect to me. However, I tried this with real butter and it was quite good.
Not bad as written and I liked the sour cream mixture. Everyone liked this recipe. Next time I will leave out the white wine, add a bit more chili powder and cumin and will use pinto beans instead of the kidneys. I just like the pinto texture better.
Tried the recipe above exactly as written and did not care for it. To me it lacks depth. The next time I'd use olive oil, less sugar, garlic, red wine vinegar , parsley, freshly ground pepper and a touch of Italian seasoning. Come to think of it, that's a whole new recipe.
Tried this recipe for New Years Day and it was another Chef John winner! Simply superb. For the next time I think I'll make it with Hot Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage and add some caramelized onions just to change things up. Keep em' coming Chef John!
Your '15' minute prep time is a bit optimistic but the end result was delicious. I'm sure there are numerous tweaks that could be made here but the recipe as listed is a winner. A favor please. All recipe listers here, please stop calling your offerings "million dollar" this and "marry me" that. They are so overused by now I and I'm pretty sure many others are sick and tired of seeing it. If your recipe is a winner, we'll be sure to let you know. Thanks!
As soon as I saw the usage of fat-free sour cream and mayonnaise in your recipe I had my doubts but the rest of the ingredients made sense. Made the dip, substituting standard mayo and sour cream for what was listed in the recipe, and it came out quite nice. I used four good shakes of Old Bay instead of a pinch the second time I made this and to me it was way better. I also used smoked Trout both times. Good stuff!
A superb recipe. Followed it to the letter. I didn't need as much beef stock. Probably two cups. The pickled Vidalia Onions can easily be found on Amazon. Leftovers make a heck of a nice sandwich the next day on a toasted baguette. Made a mayo, roasted garlic and horseradish sauce for it. Yes Siree!
An outstanding combination of flavors. A big hit at our home. I did however replace the kale with baby spinach. My boy says kale is not fit for human consumption. I kind of agree with him.
